How Much Corporate Experience Sufficient Experience to Pursue MBA

Hi !! Friends Last year I encountered with two successful mba aspirants who were joinin IIMs. After knowing their profile which reflect east-west difference. One guy with 7 yrs on blue chip corporates experience and want to pursue MBA for enhancing his CV. Otherone fresher just did engineering with no corporate experience want to pursue MBA for broaden his job opportunities. I want to know ur opinions on both above said cases 1.) Is worthwile to Pursue MBA after experience of 7 yrs with Blue chip company. Do Indian top B schools keen to admit such profile students. Will MBA do some value addition in their professional careers. 2.) Is it fruitful to get into B school immediately after graduation or freshers to spend 2-3 yrs with industries to take some prior hand experience before getting B school. Laksh Kaul

There cant be a single answer which is applicable for all. The decision to do an MBA or not should be driven by career aspiration + work desire + your abilities to be a manager + job flexibility ... so on and definitely not just by the glamor and salary presented by the media and also advertised by few instituters. The guy who got the highest package this year from ISBH had 18 years of work-ex. Both IIMA and C have started executive courses only for persons with 5 and 7 years of experience respectively. There are plethora of statistics to show its worth to do an MBA after 7 years of exp.(or for that matter after 15/20 years of exp.). But is it right for you ? is it going to benefit you?. No one can answer except you. is it going to enhance your managerial skills ? is it going to give you the much needed degree required to be in a good position in your organization? is it going to give you the career flexibility required to move in a different industry altogether? is it going to give you a good salary hike after completing the degree? The answer is Yes to all but still there are many other important factors in life you should consider before moving into a b school. Now if you ask does freshers(or guys with 2/3 yrs of exp.)consider all these things before choosing MBA as a carer the answer is NO.But MBA provide all they need in life so they never regret about the career choice.
